  MIT in the 1920s
http://alumweb.mit.edu/clubs/s-texas/ClubHistory.htm

Welcome to the MIT chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. We are an undergraduate and graduate club comprised of students majoring in Mechanical Engineering at MIT. The club meets at least once a month to handle business and listen to speakers from industry and academia. We welcome anyone who is interested in ASME to attend our meetings.

When ASME was founded in 1880, the mission (as stated in the ASME Certificate of Incorporation, or Charter) was as follows:

"To promote the arts and sciences connected with engineering and mechanical construction for scientific purposes, and to that end to meet and associate together to read and discuss professional papers, and to circulate by means of publication among its members the information thus obtained, and for the purpose of maintaining a library."

It is our goal to continue this mission, as well as expand the breadth of focus to further benefit ASME members.
