MIT PHYSICAL EDUCATION
General Institute requirement states that all students are required to complete a minimum of eight points of credit and the swim requirement. Students are expected to complete this requirement by the end of the sophomore year. Transfer students need only complete four points of credit and the swim requirement.

SWIM REQUIREMENT/BOATING Test |
Swim Requirement
MIT Undergrad students are required to meet a swim requirement by taking a swim class or passing the swim test before they can graduate. The swim test consists of jumping into the pool and swimming 100 yards continuously.
Boating Test
The boating test is required by the sailing pavilion and boathouse in order to use sailboats or crew shells. The boat test consists of jumping in the water, swimming 100 yards continuously and then treading water for 10 minutes.
Drop in test times
Patrons can come to the Z-Center Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at the times listed below to take either or both tests. A valid MIT ID or photo id with sailboat card is required before patrons can take the test.

Note: PE GIR's must be met by the end of second term of sophomore year.
