The Quarter 4 Physical Education lottery is now closed. Class assignments are available on WebSIS.

Academic Year Registration Instructions:

1. MIT Students register on-line for the physical education lottery using WebSIS: http://student.mit.edu/cgi-bin/sfprwpel_sel.sh

2. Wellesley students register here.

3. Non-students register here.

What do I need?

  • An MIT ID number
  • An Athena user name and password (even if you have access to the Web, you MUST have an Athena User name and know your password to register for the P.E. Lottery. If you have forgotten your password, you must go in person with a valid picture ID to Athena User Accounts.
  • Access to the Internet from an Athena work station, or from a home, campus residence, ILG, or lab computer using Netscape 3.0 (or above).

How do I Register for the P.E. Lottery?

Go to the WebSIS site, then click on Physical Education (or access P.E. Lottery now). Instructions at the web site guide you through the process. Because the secure WebSIS server both encrypts the network data and authenticates that you are an MIT student, the first step is to obtain a digital certificate. Once you have the certificate, you can browse through the list of Physical Education classes, then automatically submit your selection to complete your entry in the P.E. lottery.

P.E. Lottery of classes

 This program will allow you to select up to six P.E. classes in order of preference. You will be assigned one Physical Education class from the classes you select. If you do not attend the first class meeting, your spot may be given to someone else. Please note that the lottery is random, and does not guarantee that you will be placed in a class. The lottery algorithm is designed to maximize the number of students receiving their first choice of classes. Entering additional choices will not affect your chances of receiving your first choice class. Do not enter the same class twice.

How do I know it worked?

Your lottery registration is confirmed after you submit it. You may print a copy of this confirmation form.

How do I find out the lottery results?

 Beginning the day after the lottery is run, re-enter the PE lottery just as you did to select the class of your choice. Instead of the selection screen, you will see your personal lottery result expressed in table form.

I've heard that a new registration system is in the works, when will it be ready?

Until further notice, PE Registration will continue as a lottery based system. Notification of the new on-line/real time system will appear at this location when the system is ready for use.

What if I have questions?

During the P.E. lottery registration period, you can e-mail questions and comments related to the lottery by clicking on the email/help button below. This email will be monitored during regular business hours (Mon-Fri 9:00-5:00) to respond to your questions.
