Job Description

ATIC lab student consultants work on team of 3-6 students and 4 staff members. The team is responsible for supporting MIT students and staff who need adaptive software or hardware (i.e., speech recognition, screen reading, alternative keyboards) to access their computers or other electronic information.

The ATIC lab is a computing cluster for students registered with the Disabilities Services Office. ATIC staff and student consultants provide computing assistance these student lab users as well as other students, faculty, and staff contacting us with questions. Most of the assistance we provide in person, but we also respond to requests via email or telephone.

Consultant duties and responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrating adaptive software and hardware
  • Researching and testing access solutions for users with disabilities
  • Troubleshooting computer software and hardware problems (90% Windows-based PCs, 10% on Macintosh, Athena, or Linux workstations)
  • Updating our database records (currently FileMaker).
