Summary & Motivation
Project Initiator: ATS Start Date: August, 2005 Projected Completion Date: Not applicable Current Status: Ideas stage Lesotho is a beautiful country of mountains and streams, but pollution is becoming a problem in more developed areas. Since there is a lack of adequate disposal and recycling facilities, many citizens simply throw their waste on the side of the food or start their own small-scale dumping site.
The motivation behind starting recycling programs is two-fold. First, such programs would allow Lesotho to reuse steel, rubber, and glass, as well as other materials which have to be imported into this small kingdom. Second, any program would require people to help run it, so unemployment could be reduced by developing a recycling collection program.
It has been suggested to look first at the recycling of the following materials: glass bottles, steel cans, rubber tyres, and car steel.

CommunityThese programs would be available to citizens in larger communities, such as Maseru.
