Digital Signage Systems for the MIT Community

MIT Audio Visual Services manages several digital signage systems on campus. Shows can run for an entire week, weekend or a combination of both. Beginning 2/5/2007, the cost of each show is $125 per week. The cost of a Sat/Sun slot is $100. There is a $25 fee for revisions made to shows once they have been added to the scheduler. Please note that during certain times of year, demand is very high. Advanced reservations are recommended. Submit your file on the Thursday prior to the week of your reservation. Current screen locations include two in the Infinite Corridor and one in the Card Office in the Student Center

Digital Signage Format and Scheduling Information:

  • Weekday shows are displayed in a continuous loop from 8AM – 8PM each day Monday through Friday. Weekend shows are displayed from 10AM – 6PM. Shows will run for 2 minutes.
  • You can reserve a weekly spot from Monday – Friday or a weekend spot which includes Saturday and Sunday. All shows booked for a weekend will be seen on both Saturday and Sunday.
  • Shows will be seen in all three locations once they are submitted.
    Necessary preparation:
  • All PowerPoint presentations should be compatible with PowerPoint as implemented in Microsoft Office XP.
  • In PowerPoint’s "Slide Show | Set Up Show" authors need to set slide timings and check "loop continuously". The "Advance slides (using timings, if present)" button should be checked.
  • The PowerPoint presentation should be saved as a *.PPS.
  • Use large fonts. In fact, use larger fonts that you think you will need.
  • Three to six lines of text per screen.
  • Slide timings: We suggest transitions be set to the same value-- usually five seconds.
  • Total number of slides: This is dependent on the transitions in your show but most shows have 5-10 slides.
  • Catch the eye: Use a few of the animations available in PowerPoint. Dissolving from slide to slide, or having the text crawl or wipe will catch they eye as people walk past the display.
  • Do not display material for which you do not own copyright or permission to use.
