About Me

Welcome to my homepage! I’m Alberto Vargas Mendoza, a PhD Candidate in economics. More importantly, since 2005 I’ve been married to Mónica Ortiz, a great mathematician and all-round great person. 

Before coming to MIT I studied Applied Mathematics and Economic Theory at ITAM in Mexico City. I also worked as investment banking analyst and risk analyst for Protego, an advisory firm in Mexico.

My main research interests are Econometrics, Finance, Behavioral Economics (in particular choice under uncertainty), Game Theory and Development. Outside of Economics I greatly enjoy music in general and opera in particular.
