In June, 2008 my friend, Nima Bigdely, and I launched a website called Behnevis.com, a Latin to Persian script transliteration system, which strategically converts Persian words written in Latin alphabet to Persian letters.

Behnevis.com successfully provides a high transliteration accuracy by combining rule-based, database-driven, and user-feedback processing algorithms. As thousands of daily returning and new users correct the converted texts, their suggested feedback and editing lead to a continuous improvement in our conversion tables in the system.

Aside from truly believing in the great potential of Behnevis.com  as a successful net-start-up, what drives my  ambitions to work on this project the most is causing a social impact in the Persian community by revolutionizing the way Iranians communicate on the net!

Behjoo.com was launched in partnership with my long-time friend in July, 2008 as a Persian search engine, which incorporates Behnevis.com technology shared with Google Ajax search API in order to provide an easy method for searching Persian keywords on the Internet. Behjoo.com also provides the tools to include web widgets for searching on other web 2.0 websites such as Wikipedia, facebook, Digg, etc.

I served in the Office of the President of Associated Students of the University of California, Berkeley (ASUC) during my last two years at CAL as the Public Policy Director. The experience of being an active participant in America’s most active student-led campus government was exhilarating, and it transformed forever my perception of my own self as a leader capable of making big changes. During my two years of service I was challenged to exceed my limits in order to enhance my leadership potential. I assisted ASUC president with building student power on BERKELEY’s campus by creating innovative programs, providing services to undeserved communities while organizing grassroots campaigns as a vehicle for positive change on campus.

What I am most proud to present to you as the touchstone of my accomplishments as an ASUC officer, is having implemented for the first time ever the interdisciplinary graduate program in the department of Mechanical Engineering at Berkeley, along with two of my classmates. The Bachelor/Master program is currently accepting graduate students from across the globe, as a 5-year joint-program for those highly motivated Berkeley Engineers who are dedicated to further broadening their technical knowledge while earning a Bacholer degree as well as a Master degree upon successful completion of this program.
