Smoots: Student Life at MIT

Image of Lobby 7

This website, Smoots: Student Life at MIT, aims to provide useful information for prospective students, incoming freshmen, parents, and anyone else who is curious about the Institute.

Website Highlights

  • FAQ: Have a question? This detailed FAQ section contains answers from actual MIT students and alumni, addressing anything from rumors about depression to the workload, so it is a good place to start.

  • About MIT: This page has pictures of the campus from all over the place (outdoors, classrooms, dorm rooms, cafeterias, etc.).

  • My Decision: I did not even want to visit MIT during my family's East Coast college trip, yet here I am, an undergrad at MIT. Out of all the other top schools that accepted me, why did I choose MIT? Many people must choose between two or more colleges. If you want to find out why I selected MIT over Stanford, check out this page.

  • Helpful Links: This page has links to tons of information, including a virtual tour of MIT and statistics on admitted students.

  • Blog: Contrary to what some people say, MIT is considered a cool place by numerous students there. To inform people about my personal experience at MIT, I am writing a blog. It is updated at the very least once a month.

What are smoots? Smoots are a type of measurement created by a fraternity at MIT. Click here for more info.

Please note that my goal is not to persuade or prove anything, but to inform. I will report and then you can make your own decisions about MIT. I am presenting this information so you can learn more about MIT and the people who study there. Many of these web pages contain opinions of students and alumni; although their statements might be the truth to them, they might not be the truth for someone else. Before applying or accepting admission to any college, you should do thorough research to make sure it is the right place for you. Make sure to use other resources and not only this website!

This website is not affiliated with MIT. This is a webite run by a student at MIT. The logo in the banner is MIT's official logo. For more information about MIT's logo, please click here
