William L. Stewart, Jr. Awards
The William L. Stewart, Jr. Awards are presented to students who have
made outstanding contributions to co-curricular activities and events during
the preceding year at MIT. The awards are provided under a
grant from the W. L. Stewart, Jr. Memorial Foundation in memory of Mr.
Stewart, a member of the MIT Corporation from 1952 until his death in 1963.

The Order of Omega New Member Education Award was created in 1993 to
recognize the Interfraternity Council member organization that has implemented

membership in their respective organizations.

The Irwin Sizer Award is presented to any member or group in the Institute

The Bose Award for Excellence in Teaching was established in 1990 by
the School of Engineering to recognize outstanding contributions to undergraduate
education by members of its faculty. The award stands as a tribute
to one of the School's finest teachers, Dr. Amar Bose, Professor of Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science and founder of the Bose Corporation.

The Arthur C. Smith Award was established in 1996 on the occasion of
Dean Smith's retirement from the position of Dean for Undergraduate Education

and devotion to undergraduate student life at MIT.

Kristen E. Finnegan Prize
The Kristen E. Finnegan Prize recognizes the contribution of a graduate
student to the Institute's effort in helping undergraduates to improve
their writing skills. This award was established in memory of Kristen
E. Finnegan, a graduate student in Architecture and an outstanding teacher
of writing, both as the Writing Requirement reader for the Department of
Architecture and as a Graduate Fellow teaching in the Writing Practicum.

Laya W. Wiesner Award
The Laya W. Wiesner Award is presented to an undergraduate woman who
has most enhanced MIT community life. The award honors Mrs. Wiesner
for her contributions to women's activities at MIT. The MIT Women's
League, in cooperation with women faculty members, has established an endowment
fund to provide this annual award.

Ronald E. McNair Scholarship Award
The Ronald E. McNair Scholarship, established in Dr. McNair's honor
by the Black Alumni/ae of MIT, recognizes a Black undergraduate who has
demonstrated strong academic performance and who has made a considerable
contribution to the minority community. Well known for his involvement
in the MIT and surrounding community, Dr. Ronald E. McNair (Ph. D. '77)
was a physicist and astronaut. He died in the space shuttle Challengerexplosion.

and performer from the Chicago area.

The Laya and Jerome B. Wiesner Awards are presented to students, living
groups, organizations, or activities for achievement in the creative arts

at MIT has established an endowment fund to provide these awards.

The Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Prize in the Visual Arts is presented

a member of the Class of 1944.

The Priscilla King Gray Award was established by the Undergraduate
Association in cooperation with the Public Service Center. It recognizes

a personal dedication to social change, prolonged and in depth involvement,
and initiative in a leadership capacity. The award honors the inspirational
contributions Priscilla King Gray has made to public service at MIT.

The Karl Taylor Compton Prizes are presented to students in recognition
