about the convocation

Each year, through the Awards Convocation, the MIT community gathers to honor its faculty, students, staff, and friends who have contributed significantly to student life and learning. The Convocation celebrates current members of our community, as the Awards recognize individuals who have had an impact on the life of the Institute.

Excellence is a part of the ongoing development of the MIT community. While the Convocation seeks to recognize key contributions in areas that represent significant components of student life and learning at MIT, it is by no means comprehensive. Many departments, student organizations, and communities recognize contribution in a variety of ways, including other more specific awards ceremonies. We are currently exploring how to create a brief opportunity at the Awards Convocation to recognize and celebrate the many other awards at MIT. If you know of awards that are given at MIT that are not part of the Awards Convocation, please e-mail awards@mit.edu.

The 2005 Awards Convocation will be held on Tuesday, May 10, at 4:00 p.m. in 10-250. All are welcome to attend. A reception will follow the ceremony. We invite you to explore the archive of past recipients, and discover the awards that are part of the Convocation.
