Burton-Conner Cot Rental Policy

Cots may be borrowed from the Front Desk for a period of 3 nights (Institute policy dictates that as the longest allowable stay of a guest in your room). A request for a cot should be submitted 48 hours in advance of the time you need the cot. Completing this form is the only way to make a cot request, unless the House Manager gives you special exemption. If too many requests are received, cots will be distributed on a first-come, first serve basis (this rarely happens).

If you request a cot but do not pick it up from the Front Desk on the day indicated in the request, you will be charged $5.00. Additionally, your cot reservation may be cancelled for the rest of the requested time. Cots are not guaranteed to be made available for late requests (late = submitted the same day that the cot is needed). Even though late cot requests are not guaranteed to be fulfilled, the $5.00 fee is still applicable. You should check at Desk before it closes as to whether or not a cot has been made available for you.

You will not receive a confirmation of your request. If you have made the request between one week and 48 hours ahead of time, you should assume that the request will be fulfilled without any problems. You can pick up your cot from desk on the date you have requested.

Should you need to cancel your request, you should email the Desk Captain by the day before you wanted the cot in order to avoid the $5.00 fine.

Please note that the Desk Captain does not respond to messages left on his answering machine about cots. Nor does he check at desk to see if people have talked to the deskworker about reserving a cot. You must complete this form. If you are in some sort of emergency situation (hard to understand, as there are many couches in the dorm, as well as plenty of floor space), you should complete this form and then try to find the Desk Captain (leaving messages is not sufficient -- you must personally speak with the Desk Captain).

If you have a valid reason for failing to comply with this policy, you should email both the Desk Captain and the House Manager (bc-desk@mit.edu).
