The Neural Control of Vision
K. The Processing of Motion

In extrastriate cortex several areas contain cells that play a role in motion processing. Most notable among these are areas MT and MST. In these areas the overwhelming majority of cells exhibit selectivity for direction and also for velocity selectivity. While these areas contribute to several aspects of visual information processing, they play an important role in motion analysis and in regulating smooth-pursuit tracking with eye movements.
