L. The Processing of Depth


In the latter part of the 19th Century it was discovered that when photographs are taken with a camera that has two lenses, as shown on the left in Figure 52, and the resulting pictures are fused using a stereoscope, they appear in "real" depth. The disparity between the images of the two photos is converted into the perception of depth by the brain.
