The Neural
Control of Vision
O. Illusions
3c. Contrary to theory,
the effect is not increased by increasing
hypothesized center/surround antagonism of ON center ganglion cells
If the illusion were due to center surround antagonism
in retinal ganglion cells, the effect should be greater in the
right figure where surround antagonism for neurons with receptive fields
at the intersections is increased.
