connections among adjacent visual areas In area V1 the visual field is laid out in a neat, orderly fashion. This is also true for V2, but as we progress further up in the system the topography becomes progressively less clear-cut and the receptive fields become progressively larger. Curiously, in adjacent visual areas the visual field is laid out in a mirror image fashion as depicted in Figure 17 that shows the progression of receptive fields (1-8) as an electrode samples the cortex in progressive steps (1-8).
