28 shows the wiring of the parasol cells in the retina. Their
receptive field center is comprised of several cones that are mixed. The
bipolar cells of the parasol system have larger arbors than those of the
midget system. The parasol retinal ganglion cells are larger and conduct
more rapidly to the central nervous system. In central retina only about
1 out of 8 retinal ganglion cells is a parasol cell. In peripheral retina
midget and parasol classes of retinal ganglion cells is about equal in
number.
