Conference Description

Inhalation of particles has been associated with lung cancer in some occupational, toxicological and environmental settings. The type and concentration of the particles assessed in these studies has varied considerably. This conference is designed to address recent investigations of certain particles, including carbon black, talc and titanium dioxide as well as environmental studies of particulates in which lung cancer is a major health outcome. Presentations on recent cohort mortality studies, toxicological investigations and particle characterization assessments of the above substances will be included, along with an update on the epidemiology of lung cancer associated with inhalation of particulates. Discussion sessions regarding the hazard identification and regulatory implications of these studies will follow the formal presentations.

American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) will award 14 continuing medical education credits (CMEs) to physicians.
The American Board of Industrial Hygiene has approved CM points for industrial hygienists in attendance.
