Scientific Program

Both invited presentations and submitted abstracts will be part of the program. Abstracts can include unpublished and previously published and properly acknowledged work related to the risk of cancer from exposure to particulates in the following scientific disciplines: toxicology, epidemiology, exposure assessment and clinical medicine.

Abstracts and papers related to the following specific topics are encouraged:

  • Molecular and cellular mechanisms of lung cancer in humans especially with regard to target cells, the role of inflammation and identification of human tumor suppressor or oncogenes.
  • Particle characterization assessments in environmental epidemiological studies linking particulates with lung cancer or other respiratory diseases.
  • Clinico-pathological studies of particles and lung cancer (biopsy, tissue digestion studies etc) that have focused on addressing links between particles and lung cancer or potentially preclinical lesions or histologic conditions.

Selected proceedings to be published by J Occup Env Med based on scientific peer review. Guest editor: R J McCunney, MD, MPH. Conference topics will include invited presentations and presentations based on accepted abstracts.

Guidelines for abstracts

Abstracts should be limited to 150 words and be prepared in the following format:

SPEAKERS INTERESTED IN HAVING THEIR PAPERS PUBLISHED ARE REFERRED TO THE PUBLISHING INSTRUCTIONS OF THE JOURNAL OF OCCUPATIONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL MEDICINE FOR AUTHORS NOTED ON THE JOURNAL'S WEB SITE: www.joem.org. The papers should follow the same format and style as other JOEM submissions.

NOTE: for speakers who wish to have their papers considered for publication, a draft paper must be submitted no later than December 7, 2005.
