MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
Department of Biological Engineering

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

The MIT Department of Biological Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level, to begin July 2008 or thereafter. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a science or engineering discipline related to biological engineering. In special cases, a more senior faculty appointment might be possible. The candidate is expected to integrate strong expertise in molecular/cellular bioengineering with emphasis on biophysical aspects; example areas of application might include mechanobiology, stem cell technologies, biomolecular materials, tissue engineering, and/or synthetic biology. We especially encourage individuals from underrepresented groups to apply, because of MIT’s strong commitment to diversity in engineering education, research and practice.

Interested candidates should send application materials to be-fac-search@mit.edu. Each application should include: a curriculum vitae; the names and addresses of three or more references; a strategic statement of research interests; and a statement of teaching interests specifically in the context of the Biological Engineering graduate and undergraduate educational programs at MIT (http://web.mit.edu/be/education/ and http://web.mit.edu/be/education/ugrad.htm).

We request that each candidate arrange for the reference letters to be sent directly to be-fac-search@mit.edu. Questions maybe be directed to the Chair of the Search Committee:

Professor Bruce Tidor
Chair, Faculty Search Committee
Department of Biological Engineering
Bldg 32, Room 212

Responses by 1 February will be given priority.
