Below is a list of offices within the BE Student Board and a short summary of their responsibiities. (These responsibilities tend to be flexible and people tend to help out with other events in which they have an interest too.) Officers are elected yearly at the end of the summer term.

All officers are expected to attend monthly BE Student Board meetings and may be called upon during the year to provide student advice/guidance on decisions by the Division.

  • The Student Board Coordinators rganize and run monthly BE board meetings. They ensure that BE board initiatives are carried out and serve as contacts between the students and the faculty/administration.

  • The Secretary writes down the meetings' minutes, manages the BE Board website, and puts together posters or other advertising material for the BE Student Board.

  • The Treasurer maintains an updated budget and keeps each committee informed about their spending status. The treasurer also compares expenditures with Mariann Murray monthly.

  • The Academic and Industrial Seminars Chairs aid in organizing the BE retreat, run annual student survey, analyze and pass relevant results to BE administration. They also organize study breaks for first years and help maintain BE Graduate Student Handbook. Additionally, this position is in charge of identifying, contacting, and hosting speakers from the industrial sector whose experience and expertise would help prepare BE students for future industrial positions and collaborations.

  • The Social Chairs plan and organize monthly social events such as the TGIFs. They aid in Division-organized events like BBQs and the Holiday Party.

  • The Athletic Chairs (1) advertise available IM sports to BE students and faculty, (2) organize teams for the sports where interest exists (~10 teams per year), (3) find captains for each team, (4) represent BE at the IM sports affiliation meetings once per semester, (5) ensure necessary equipment and jerseys are bought for BE IM teams, and (6) manage the BE IM sports finances.

  • The BE Diversity Representative on the BE Student Board is a liaison between these two entities, and, as such, updates their respective members with the visions, projects and concerns to be communicated.

  • The Community Service Chair increase efforts to increase BE's involvement with community service projects.

  • The BE Undergraduate Curriculum Committee Representative is required to attend all the curriculum committee meetings (3-4 meetings per term) and report back to the BE Board. He/she is encouraged to suggest agenda items for the committee on behalf of the BE Board. The representative is expected to speak on behalf of the BE graduate students regarding curriculum, advising, community/culture, and other issues at the regular meetings. Special projects are often organized through subcommittees, which include some permanent members of the committee, along with additional ad hoc members who have special insight and expertise.
  • The GSC Representatives represent BE at meetings of the Graduate Student Council; keep the BE board informed about the GSC; monitor the BE Board's Association of Student Activities membership and seek additional funding for BE events through these avenues.

  • The First-year Representative facilitates interactions between the BE Board and the first year class, as well as represents the needs and opinions of the class.

Would you like to get involved in organizing one of the BE Board events? Volunteers are welcome at any point, just contact us (as a group, or personally)!
