Note: The information below is outdated and represents my final project as an MTPW student several years ago. Please see NU's official pages for current information on the Master of Technical and Professional Writing and other graduate programs.
Many courses are taught by industry professionals. Here are the 1995-1996 lecturers:
Before coming to NU, I taught at the University of Pittsburgh, Allegheny College, and the University of Michigan. I have also stepped out of academia to work as a magazine editor, a professional technical writer, and as a consultant to business and industry. At present, I keep my sanity by continuing to consult as well as teach--the dual role helps me to maintain perspective and balance.
At Northeastern I direct the undergraduate writing programs, the graduate technical and professional writing programs, and the NU Law School writing programs. I have published three textbooks and numerous articles, and am currently working on the relationship between feminist discourse and legal rhetoric. When I am not working, I am usually looking for my golf ball in a sand trap, practicing survival floating in Walden Pond, buying new CDs, or discovering new wines. I dream of retiring in the south of France.
Professor Loehr's primary research interest is proactive technical and professional communication, particularly creating policy and documents in cross-functional project teams. Correspondingly, she enjoys membership in groups featuring diverse perspectives, notably the Academy of Management, Women's Initiative for Technology Leadership, and the Association of Business Communication.
