Personal Stuff
It is safe to say that I am semi-fanatical about automobiles. In fact, it is safe to say that I am fanatical. At any rate, I love sports cars and I like to drive. A lot. This year (2006) I am campaigning my '73 TR6 in the New England region SCCA Solo II series in the F Prepared class. The prepared class involves many modifications to the car, so while it was a TR6 in its early life, this car is a bit of a beast.
My Street TR6
My Dad bought this car new in 1974 (April 1st, to be precise), and I've been "playing" with it for the last 25 years or so. I used to race it, but now I just tool around New England and it's been pretty much everywhere east of the Mississippi river. Lots of fun!
My Car is on Crack!
Doing some routine maintenance on the race car last night and I found this:
It might be hard to see in the picture, but the crack is in the trailing arm just forward of the hub carrier and it extends about 3 inches up the arm along the outer web of the casting.
I found a similar (although shorter) crack on the other side. I guess I need to deal with this before I race again!
The Wall 2008
The house needed some work this spring, so Linda and I tackled some masonary.
What Cylinder Head Is That?
There's a lot of different Triumph 6-pot cylinder heads out there. Somone gave me this spreadsheet a while back as a reference. You need Excel or Open Office Calc to read this, it's an xls file... but there's some good info here.
Dyno Pulls
After playing with the engine on the TR6 race car, I figured that it might be worthwhile to see how the changes effect the power. Run 1 is 10:1, Webers, header, port matching and balanced. Run 13 is 12:1 and porting with everything else the same except for some work with the Weber jets. While 128 HP is dissapointing, it is pretty obvious that the motor breathes better when you consider that the curve keeps going up to the redline.
The cam is a Piper BP270, 24/60-60/24 with about .400 lift at the valves
More pulls will be added over time.
FLASH
We found that the cam was retarded by about 30 degrees. Not sure how that happened, but it was corrected and the motor will get strapped to the dyno sometime in DEC to see what things look like when running properly. Stay tuned!

Another "duty" that I commit time to is that I am the chair for the New England Region SCCA Solo Site Committee. We're always looking for large paved areas where we can "play". Contact me if you know of a large parking lot!
