Madhuban was the largest classical dance ever performed in an MIT Cultural Show, and the only one ever performed to live music. Ten Bharatha Natyam dancers and four Kathak dancers combined forces to describe the love of Lord Krishna and Radha. Sheetal Karhade ('01) sang, with Naveen Goela ('03) on tabla and Akhila Subramaniam ('04) on harmonium. We hope this performance was just the beginning of a long collaboration with MIT's musicians!
Date: April 7, 2001
Venue: Kresge Auditorium, MIT
MIT Natya was proud to host Jothi Raghavan's Alankaram, a fusion performance combining traditional Bharatha Natyam and western Modern and Jazz dance and music.
Date: August 12; Venue: Kresge Auditorium, MIT
For more details, check the Alankaram webpage.
MIT Natya's debut was, appropriately, a dance in praise of Lord Ganesha. With six members of what was then called the Bharatha Natyam Club, this "offering of flowers" was the first "group" classical dance to be performed at the MIT Cultural Show. It has been performed several times since, including at Diwali celebrations, Activities Midway, etc.
Date: April 8; Venue: Kresge Auditorium, MIT
