4. MURI program: FSMA R&D

Sponsorship: Office of Naval Research (Dr. Roshdy Barsoum)

Two MURI awards were made by ONR effective May 1, 2001. One award went to a group led by Manfred Wuttig (U. MD) and including co-PIs Richard James (U. MN), Dwight Veihland (U. RI), and Eckard Quandt (CAESAR, Ggermany).

The other award went to a group led by MIT as outlined below.

These two teams will collaborate to advance the science and understanding of magnetic-field-induced strain, hybrid materials incorporating this effect and, ultimately, developing a basis for determining the suitability of these new active materials for various applications.
