Front of House
It's the front of the house. Shutters here, but not anywhere else.
Seller
She had lived here for forty years, and the house was clearly well-loved. Her husband was at MIT and had worked in Building 20 right after World War II for a while, while she went to Radcliffe, so she thought MIT and Harvard people were good. We encouraged her to go take a tour of the Stata Center. A really nice lady.
Front of house and front garden
There's a rose amidst a bunch of ferns. The bush on the far left is a "burning bush" which turns bright red in the fall, or so we are told.
Back porch
There's an awning that rolls down - in fact, it rolls down somewhat oddly far, if you take it all the way.
Back of House
It's much like the front, but with no shutters. The back door is just out of view to the left.
Back Flowerbed
Some lilies and some poppies and something I've forgotten the name of. A little raggedy, but Jerry has grand plans. The outside cellar door is to the left.
Little room
All the rooms look smaller in the pictures because I can't take a picture of a whole room. But this is the smallest of the lot, too small for an actual bedroom. This will be the computer room (causing us to spend a large portion of our time in the smallest room in the house. Go figure).
Bedroom One
This one is the largest bedroom (about 12x12). This'll be Jerry & my room.
Bedroom Two
This is the longest bedroom (about 10 x 13). Charles thinks it's bigger than the yellow bedroom, so he gets it. The curtains look extra-shiny because of the flash. This is the one room with a hardwood floor at the moment, which make it particularly funny to give to Charles. (This room and Medium Room have drop ceilings; Bedroom One and Little Room do not. We're not sure what's hiding in them yet; they're not very far dropped at all.)
Medium Room
This could be a bedroom. It'll be some combination of guest room and library - there are mad plans to add bookshelves in the closet. The wallpaper isn't actually paper - it's paneling, like the wood panel in the computer room. That's why there's the vertical thingies.
Third Floor
Looking from one third floor room to the other, past the strange little mid-room. You can see the shelf where the fishtank used to live. The little mid-room would be a perfect space for puppet shows, but we're really not willing to devote permanent space to that. Any parts of these walls in the middle that can't justify their existence are going to go, opening up the third floor space more.
Square Attic Room
One of the two third floor rooms - this is the square one. The drawers and shelves are nice; the opposite wall is just paneling. We're thinking this is where games live, with a table and chairs.
L-shaped Attic Room
This is one leg of the L, from the stair landing looking in. There's eaves storage space behind the panel to the left. We're thinking this is the TV room.
L-shaped Attic Room 2
This isn't a second L-shaped room, just trying to show more of the L. The second leg of the L is on the left, the door to the landing on the right. The puppet show hole in the wall is to the far right. The strange diagonal thing to the left is the entrance to the unfinished part of the third floor, where there's storage. However, you can see from the attic room pictures that the rooms themselves are pretty finished, as compared to the stairway. Note the spooky religious manifestation in the window.
Stairway to Third Floor
This needs some work. We panicked a little at seeing light through the corner of the stairwell (since there's a window just to the right, beyond the picture), but it's actually into the storage room, not out to the world. :)
Dining side of Big Room
This is one end of the big first floor room. The wallpaper is a little bit woven-textured, and I think it's neat. Not that you can see it from the picture. This is from the doorway to the entry hall; the kitchen is to the right (and there's another door between dining room and kitchen off to the right). The "dry-sink" is in the right hand corner too.
Living side of Big Room
This is looking from about under the chandelier to the front of the house, along the long room. The flash didn't go off on this one, so I've turned up the brightness on the photo, but it's not great. Still, it looks like the dining side.
Entry Hall
From the front door. The kitchen is at the far end, and there's a near entry and a far entry to the living/dining room to the left.
Kitchen
One side of the kitchen. The open door goes to the, um, mudroom? A little room with some cabinets. Maybe it'll be a pantry. You can see the back door through the other side of the room; the quarter-bathroom is beyond the first door, to the right. The Big Room is through the open curved doorway to the left.
Kitchen, other side
This is taken approximately from the sink, in the other direction from the previous kitchen shot. There's a non-walk-in pantry that's the open arched door, the closed door is to the basement, and then the entry hall is out of frame to the right.
