To: Hegemonic Ministry of Defense, Minister-in-chief The following is in regards to Military Defendant #10139, aka "Dylanna". Affirming the extreme gravity of the crimes with which MD10139 is charged, and also their aggravation by her subsequent escape from military custody, I wish to place before the Ministry's attention certain facts which might justify some moderation of the proceedings against her. Following her escape from military custody, MD10139 on her own initiative executed an operation to obtain materials and data which proved indispensable to the defense of Craterrock Site Beta, aka "The Mountain". These materials included software which was used to override and deactivate the five powered-assault-armored units which Terran agents deployed against that site. My analysis is that Site Beta lacked adequate firepower to disable these armored units in good time, and that their strikes prior to deactivation were one of two principal sources of partial operational failure and resulting casualties throughout the Linked Worlds. Without defender access to the override software, casualties would have been considerably higher, with the significant possibility of site overrun and resulting catastrophic failure of the entire operation. It is the opinion of this command that while the actions described do not in any way mitigate the crimes with which MD10139 is charged, it would not be just for them to be ignored during the penalty phase of the judicial proceedings against her.
