Things to Not Say to Certain People
In the upheavals of the past several centuries, much information has been
lost or flat out misrepresented. In some cases, people have become very
attached to certain "false truths" and may not take well to having them
corrected. This list hits some topics of conversation or behaviors best avoided
around certain people or groups, for your own comfort and popularity. (You may
be greeted with scepticism to hostiliy if you don't follow this advice).
- Tinoori - Don't lie to Tinoori. Just don't.
- Red Hegemony - Riden was never the capital of the old Hegemony;
Ridena (Craterrock) was. It is entirely possible that the red Hegemons
themselves are no longer aware of this inaccuracy, so its probably best to avoid
this topic in the presence of anyone of import in the red Hegemony.
- Vircus - Avoid mentioning the fall of the Hegemony, the destruction
of Ridena and the Sky Guard, or that there are two Hegemonies now. We'll find a
way to break the past couple centuries to them gently in time.
- Outworlds - Many outworlders feel inworlders view them as inferior;
be especially careful to treat outworlders and inworlders with equal respect.
- Stannis Law - Be extra careful not to be caught breaking the law in
Stannis. Also, don't waste Lord Stannis' time.
- Hegemonic Girl Scouts - It may not be wise to apprise any you might
meet that Jim is a Hegemonic Boy Scout. (Though she probably knows
now.)
- Brohcoah - Do not violate the letter or spirit of an
agreement you make with the Brohcoah.
The Care and Feeding of Information
Think of information as being a bit like currency. It's hard to get and once
it's "spent" it's gone, so it makes sense not to just hand it out to anyone we
run into for free. In truth, information is probably significantly more
valuable to us than money, since there are a lot more ways to get money than
there are to get some of our information. As talented as we are, we're not
infintely powerful, and our information is currently one of our biggest assets.
If we spend it in the right places and at times, we can do what we need to
do.
