Kaufman Tube Prototype

You can make one Pre of Mind roll per week. You need to roll at least five 14's over the course of the prototyping phase; you can use Nanotech and Biology and Chemistry and Medicine and EE and MechE and Research. However, the non-nanotech levels cap at the maximum amount of Nanotech you have. Other people can help with the rolls; their other skills also cap at their Nanotech skill, and for each success they get on the helping roll, you get +1 skill (not divided by 2) on yours. (Here "you" is whoever is making the main roll.)

For each week in which you get a success without having failed in the previous week, you get N eps (one per success) to add to one of the three tech stats (strength, precision and reliability) on the device (starting from 0 0 0), keeping in mind also the time cap on tech.

1 Month Tech 3
4 Months Tech 4
1 Year Tech 5

These eps are spent like character eps; one point to buy the stat to a 1, two points to buy it to a 2, and so on. You can keep going with rolls to add points after you've gotten your five successes if you want. (The efficacy of the resulting tube will be put together based on the stats; there may be various sorts of caps on how well it works)

Rolls:

  1. Creek to Rupert's Hole; 7 weeks.
    Kith assists with: 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 successes.
    Hippocrates assists with: 2, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2 successes.
    Sophia gets: 4, 3, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2 successes.

  2. Rupert's Hole to Creek; 8 weeks.
    Kith assists with: 1, 1, 0, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 successes.
    Hippocrates assists with: 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2 successes.
    Sophia gets: 4, 3, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3 successes.
At this point, we are considering halting production to build a prototype tube with tech level 4 and stats 4 4 4. The next stage of research would be testing. If the prototype is not destroyed in the testing, we could spend eight more months improving it, then retest, etc. to get a tech level 5 tube. If the tube is destroyed it will take somewhat longer to get to tech level 5, but it will be less than four months longer than if the prototype were not destroyed.
