For each entry, the top eight octopodes will be awarded points. The octopus in first place will receive 10 points, and all other octopodes will receive a point plus one point for each octopus below them.
If there are eight or more octopodes in a contest, the scores are as follows:
If there are fewer than eight octopodes, then the top scorer receives ten points, while the other scorers receive down to one point. For example, in a four-way race:
An octopus in one of the top eight places for an event will also receive one bonus point for each Royal Artifact he is wearing in any picture used to score that event.
