Participants will be asked to choose a roommate and communicate your selections to Stephanie Batiste at sbatiste@english.ucsb.edu. The Participant bio page will be active through MIT’s BPT webpage.
Transportation
The most convenient airport for flying to Santa Barbara is the Santa Barbara airport. You may also choose to fly to LAX though it is 90 miles south of Santa Barbara and a 1.5 hour drive or longer shuttle ride.
Participants who are flying to the conference should use the hotel courtesy shuttle if arriving between 7:30am and 10:30pm. After 10:30pm, please take a taxi from the airport to the hotel (please keep your taxi receipts so that we may reimburse you). Transportation will be provided between the hotel and the UCSB campus on the days of the conference. Please meet in the lobby of the hotel at 8:30AM on Friday and Saturday so that we may drive you to the start of the conference. Transportation will also be provided to and from the dinner.
Driving Directions
To South Coast Inn
From 101 Northbound:
Patterson Ave. exit, to the right
Left on Calle Real (first stoplight), follow road about a mile
Inn will be on your right at corner of Calle Real and Kellogg.
From 101 Southbound:
Fairview Ave. exit, to the left
Right on Calle Real, follow road past several stoplights
Inn will be on your left at corner of Calle Real and Kellogg.
To UCSB from US 101
From 101 Northbound:
take the UCSB/Highway 217 exit
Follow signs to UCSB
Upon entering Henley Gate, keep right and follow Mesa Road to the third traffic light. At this intersection, turn left onto Ocean Road. Continue on Ocean Road until you reach Parking Structure 22 on your left. The conference is being held in the Loma Pelona Room, located to the South East of the parking garage. From 101 Southbound:
take the Storke Road/UCSB exit
Drive south (toward the ocean) to a “T” junction with El Colegio Road.
Turn Left onto El Colegio Road and follow it until it intersects with Ocean Road. Take a right on Ocean Road, and follow it until you reach Parking Structure 22 on your left. The conference is being held in the Loma Pelona Room, located to the South East of the parking garage. For more information see the attached campus map.
UCSB General Parking Information
Conference participants who are driving to the event will be provided with parking permits. If you have not already done so, please contact Kristie Soares to receive permits (ksoares@umail.ucsb.edu).
In general, visitors must purchase a parking permit when visiting the campus. They are available at various pay points in each parking lot, payable with cash or credit card. Please display your permit in the lower driver's side corner of the front windshield. Metered parking is also available for 25 cents/10 min. with a max of 60 minutes.
