Bradford Skow Philosophy 382 Spring 2007 Final Paper Information The final paper is due on TUESDAY, MAY 22nd. The paper should be between 5 and 6 pages. It should use some form of in text documentation for citing sources. Do not write any footnotes. 1/3 of your grade (30 points) will be based on the quality of your writing. This includes clarity, spelling, grammer, and punctuation. 2/3 of your grade (60 points) will be based on the content of your paper. This includes: how accurately you present arguments and claims found in the reading; how well you explain those arguments and claims; the quality of your own evaluation of them. Paper Topics: 1. Choose-your-own. You may choose to write on any topic covered in the class since the beginning of the year, with one restriction: if a there was a question on that topic on one of the exams, you may not write on it. (Study guide questions that were not on the exam are okay.) If you want to choose-your-own you must clear your topic with me. Send me email with your proposal. 2. Critically assess Sober's argument that evolution made us psychological altruists. 3. Critically assess Sober's objection to Kant's argument that lying is morally wrong. 4. Critically assess Sober's argument that Lewis is wrong to say that it is impossible for a population of language users to always speak falsely. 5. The second premise of the argument against ethical objectivism that Street discusses is a good source of topics. She discusses three objections to that premise. Choose one of those objections and critically evaluate it.
