Login to Mediathread
- Go to http://mediathread.mit.edu
- Log in with the account sent to you by email.
If you have any questions, email Belinda Yung at mediathread@mit.edu
- First time only setup: get the Bookmarklet
Click on the Import into Collection link and save the "bookmarklet" to your browser following the instructions on the page. We recommend you save the bookmarklet on your browser’s toolbar.
Adding videos to your Mediathread Collection
- Go to a webpage containing an embedded video supported by Mediathread
Supported video types include TechTV, YouTube, and Vimeo
- Click on the “Analyze with Mediathread” bookmarklet saved in your browser.
TIP: It’s easiest to login to Mediathread before using the bookmarklet feature otherwise you will be prompted to log in.
- The video then appears in the Mediathread environment where you can save the item to your workspace and add tags to it as well as making video clips.
Make your own video clip selections
- Once the video is in your Mediathread collection, you may begin saving selections from the video. To create a selection, you must choose start and stop points and a title. You may also add tags and notes about the selection. Save the selection when you are done with your changes.
- Once you are done creating your selections, you may start a "multimedia essay" or a "new composition."
Write multimedia compositions
- Return to the course home page, by clicking on the title of the course. Under the Composition heading, click the Create button and select Create Composition.
- You are presented with a writing space and a panel listing the video assets and selections you have saved. You should rename the title for the composition. Click on the insert selection icon next to selections you wish to add to your composition. Links to these selections will appear wherever the writing cursor is.
- To preview a selection in the writing space, click on a link and follow the instructions.
- Remember to save your composition when you are done editing.
- Your Mediathread session never times out or expires. So, be sure to logout when you are done working.
