Scenario 1: Harassment

Introduction : Console Chris : Suggest resources

You chose: Suggest, “Well there are some people at MIT who are particularly able to help in painful situations like this. You might want to talk to someone in the Ombuds Office or Graduate Student Office.”

Chris responds, “What good would that do?” You suggest that there are options in a situation like this, and Chris asks, “Such as?”

You can...

Let P handle it.
Say, "I'm not sure," and suggest again that Chris talk to someone in the Ombuds Office or the GSO.
Go With P
List the options you know: direct approach, informal, intervention, mediation, generic approach, and formal complaint. You offer to help Chris through the process and become deeply involved.

Suggest that Chris look at Dealing with Harassment on line at http://web.mit.edu/communications/hg/.
