Strategy: Use body language to show disapproval

Purpose/goal:
Communicate that the behavior is unacceptable without embarrassing the offending person, save face.

Tips:
Minimize the risk to yourself, keeping your reaction as non-threatening as possible.

Example:

  • Situation #1
A teammate makes an off-color joke (e.g. involving an offensive stereotype) at a project meeting.

Response: frown, clear your throat, wide-eyed surprised look.

Response (more extreme case): get up and walk out.
