Membership
At MIT, the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is called
the Committee on Assessment of Biohazards and Embryonic Stem Cell
Research Oversight (CAB/ESCRO). Members
are appointed by the President of MIT. The CAB/ESCRO consists
of community representatives, MIT faculty, and staff. MIT
faculty and staff members provide a range of technical expertise
that is meant to reflect the range of on-going biological research
at the Institute. The Cambridge community members provide a most
important public perspective on the Institute’s research.
The goal of this combination of technical perspective and public
member review is the safe and responsible conduct of research at
MIT.
