CAES   Context-Aware Experience Sampling
Home   History of CAES software

Motivation

Our research group regularly needs to gather data on the activity of people as they go about everyday life. We have found electronic sampling to be an effective way to do this. The original CAES tool was developed for PDAs. At this point, however, using phones with data connections is both more versatile and more convenient. As more sensors are included in phones or can communicate with phones, new opportunities for automatic context detection and sampling are created. We have joined the MyExperience project to help develop such software.

Projects

We know that the original CAES software was used for studies such as the following:

  • Studying interruptions
  • Recognizing activities
  • Using ESM in a live-in laboratory
  • Recognizing activities of daily living from sensors
  • Context-aware interventions
  • Workplace design tools
If you used it in your work, please let us know.
