- Who Am I? Currently I am an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department at Kansas State University. This page was started when I was a graduate student in the Mechanical Engineering Department at MIT. I stayed at MIT as a post-doctoral research associate in the Composite Materials and Nondestructive Evaluation Lab until the end of July 2001.
- Where Do I Come From? I came from a little town called LuoYuan county in southeastern China's Fujian (Fukien) Province, which is directly across the Strait from Taiwan. This town has now become a part of Fuzhou (Fuchow) City, the capital of Fujian.
- Where Did I Graduate? I graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1985 with B.Sc. degree in solid mechanics; the Institute of Mechanics in the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1988 with M.Eng. degree in applied mechanics. Finally, I got my Sc.D. (Doctor of Science) degree in applied mechanics from MIT in June 1998.
- Where Have I Been? I stayed in my hometown until a few months after my 15th birthday. Then, 5 years in Anhui Province in central China, 5 years in Beijing, the capital of China, and 11 years in USA.
- Hobbies: Photography is currently my biggest hobby. I am interested in nature and landscape photographies. I call my on-line photo displays as My Color Book.
I liked many things in the early part of my life, especially during my college years. But life became too complicated and forced me to give up many of them. Things I liked and could (note the past tense) do quite well: photography, Chinese calligraphy, oil painting, Chinese painting, Chinese seal engraving (ZhuanKe), stamp collecting, etc. Things I enjoy watching other people's doing/work: music (classical and pop), poem, many types of performing arts. Oh, movie! That is another thing.
After a long and hard period of life with tears and sweats, I finally concluded that the life will never get any easier no matter what. As the saying goes: "there is only one life to live, enjoy it while you can". So I am trying to pick up some of my old hobbies. The first thing I picked up is photography, and enjoyed it enormously.
