Pay Toilet, uh.., The Media Lab
On the eastern campus along the Ames Street is this quite impersonal yet-another-Pei's-work Weisner Building (Building E15). When the construction was near complete, hackers mocked the entance of the bulding and put up a sign of Pay (Pei) Toliet. The building hosts MIT's Media Lab, which is generally regarded as most non-MIT-like lab as both to its shell and its contents. On the news that the Media Lab is taking over a smaller building that hosts the Department of Brain and Cognitive Science (Course 9), MIT's student newspaper The Tech on December 9, 1997 ran a full page of 3 column articles, with titles such as Otherworldly Media Lab Doesn't Amount to Much plus a large negative image of the lab, bashing the Media Lab and its director. Weisner Building also hosts MIT's List Student Visual Arts Center.
