Facilities

The Hobby Shop has facilities to machine wood, metal, and plastic. Projects can be for personal use, research, academics, UROPS, etc.

People
The Hobby Shop Staff is here to help members learn to use all of the machinery and to help detail and design projects.

Ken Stone-MIT Architecture Graduate, Class of 1972 and Director of MIT Hobby Shop since 1991. Before the Hobby Shop, Ken ran his own custom woodworking business for 18 years.

Roy Talanian-Taught shop for almost 30 years in the Boston area. He also ran a very successful home remodeling business. Roy
has supervised and taught classes in the Hobby Shop since 1997.

 

Machinery
The Hobby Shop has a 25" planer, a 12" jointer, table saws, radial arm saws, a band saw, routers, drill presses, wood lathes, and sanders for wood working. There is also a milling machine, several lathes, band saws, a shear, a brake, and grinders for metalworking. There are assembly benches and a collection of hand tools and measuring equipment.

New Equipment includes a Water Jet and a CNC Lathe.
