Preprofessional Advising

The Preprofessional Advising staff works with students interested in applying to medical, dental, and other health related professional schools, as well as those interested in applying to law school.

Services

Appointments:
Appointments are typically 30 minutes in length and can be used for general preprofessional counseling needs or for mock interviews. Appointments can be held in-person or via phone for students or alumni who are unable to come to campus. Please call 617-253-4733 to schedule an in-person or phone appointment with a member of the Preprofessional Advising staff.

Preprofessional Walk-ins:

Walk-ins are 15 minute sessions during which you may ask quick prehealth and prelaw questions. Preprofessional Walk-in Hours for the Spring 2008 semester are Wednesdays 3-4 p.m. and Thursdays 11a.m.-12p.m. Appointments are not needed during walk-in hours.

Please Note: Preprofessional Advising Walk-ins for the Spring 2008 semester will end in the last week of June 2008

Essay Critiques:

The Preprofessional Advising staff is available to review and critique your personal statements/essays for medical and health related schools and law schools. The following are ways you can have your essay critiqued by a member of the Preprofessional Advising staff.

  • Option #1: Appointments Call 617-253-4733 to make an in-person or phone appointment with Erin Scott or Tamara Menghi. Front desk staff will assist you with making an appointment. Please send your essay 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment to your assigned counselor.
  • Option #2: Email Critiques Email Erin Scott or Tamara Menghi with a Word document copy of your essay. (Please no PDFs.) Critiqued essays are typically returned via email within 3-4 days of the request for an email critique.

Premed/health and Prelaw Email Lists:

The premed/health and prelaw email lists provide information on events, programs, and workshops. In addition, informational emails on the application processes, tips and advice and advertisements for pertinent schools and programs are sent to these email list. To sign up for one or both of these email lists please do the following:

  • Email: slittlej@mit.edu
  • Subject line: Add to *Premed/health or Prelaw email list (be specific on which you prefer)
    *If you desire to be added to the premed/health email list state the year you plan to matriculate in a medical or other health profession school (not the year you graduate from MIT). Ex. Please add me to the 2012 premed/health email list.
