Freshman Year
Fall Semester
Attend Freshman/Sophomore Premedical Information Session.
Review the Association of American Medical College’s (AAMC) Medical School Admissions Requirements book and the MIT recommended premedical courses. http://www.aamc.org
Build rapport with your professors and supervisors for future recommendation letters.
Spring Semester
Explore the field of medicine – conduct informational interviews, volunteer/intern in medical settings.
Plan out premedical coursework in preparation for the application process.
Sophomore Year
Fall Semester
Attend Freshman/Sophomore Premedical Information Session.
Explore the field of medicine – conduct informational interviews, volunteer/intern in medical settings.

Spring Semester

Research medical schools and attend medical school visits.
Junior Year
Fall Semester
Attend Advisor/Advisee Mixer to receive your assignment and meet your prehealth advisor.
Start studying for the April MCATs.
Learn about current medical research and clinical issues.
Develop relationship with your advisor.
Continue to explore the field of medicine and participate in community service.
Ask 3-5 people to write you letters of recommendation.

Spring Semester
Attend IAP premed events.
Take the MCAT in April.
Start filling out the AMCAS application online.
Obtain non-AMCAS school applications.
Research and visit medical schools and develop your target list.
Have your essay critiqued and completed.
Submit AMCAS application starting June 1st.
Attend the Medical School Essay Writing Workshop and begin to draft your personal essay.
Have all recommendation letters, MCAT scores, academic transcript and personal statement into the Careers Office by the end of June. Once these are all received they will be sent to your advisor.
Summer before Senior Year
Check to make sure your recommendation letters and your advisor’s letter has been received by the Careers Office.
Complete secondary applications and submit a completed school designation form to the Careers Office.
Take MCAT in August if you haven’t done so in April.
Start preparing for interviews. Review practice questions online.

Senior Year
Fall Semester
Prepare for your interviews. Sign up for a mock interview at the Careers Office or seek assistance from your advisor.
Research medical schools that you are applying to. Read published literature.
Maintain contact with your advisor.
Keep abreast of current medical issues.

Spring Semester
Write a thank you note to your advisor and update them on the outcome of your applications.
Update the Careers Office staff on the status of your application.
Close prehealth credential file by completing an Exit Interview Form in writing or through an appointment with a member of the preprofessional staff.
Attend the Advisor/Advisee Reception in May.
