Q. I sometimes see the word "CareerBridge." What does this mean?

A. Along with several major national universities, we have contracted with CSO Research to run our on-campus interview program - CarerBridge. CareerBridge is the main application that houses off-campus recruiting listings and job search information. All student and employer data in the CareerBridge system is password-protected and exclusively for the use of the MIT Careers Office.

Q. Can I edit my User Profile? How?

A. Yes. You can edit your User-Profile, once created, by logging in and selecting User Profile from the Student Menu. Then proceed to make any changes.

Q. What do I do if I have seen elsewhere that a company is scheduled to recruit, but the company is not listed on CareerBridge?

A. CareerBridge job listing information can only be posted by the company. The MIT Careers Office makes every attempt to remind each company to input their information into the CareerBridge system in a timely fashion. Feel free to contact us with concerns.

Q. How will I know what materials the employer wants me to submit?

A. All employers will require a resume. However, some will request an unofficial transcript or cover letter, although only a very small number of employers will actually request a cover letter. When listing their employment opportunities, each employer will specify the required materials. If a company asks for supplemental information, they should also note in their job descriptions whether they want a list of your grades, SAT scores, or a writing sample. If they so not specify, you should contact the company and ask what they are looking for. It would be prudent to maintain a record of your "supplemental" information in CareerBridge.

Q. Do employers factor in GPA when deciding whom they want to interview?

A. It will vary from employer to employer. Some employers will indicate a preferred GPA in "Job Qualifications." Based on your complete qualifications (skills, experience, competencies, objective, etc) employers will decide whom they would like to interview. CareerBridge will not screen out any candidates based on GPA.

Q. Where are the interviews?

A. Interviews are generally conducted in the MIT Careers Office at 12-170. There is an interview waiting area on the left-hand side of the Careers Office. When you arrive, SIGN IN and wait for the employer to greet you. (NOTE! Chem. Eng, Chemistry and 6A interviews tend to be held in a separate location. Always check the "Location" box on the job posting. If you are still unsure, contact your department or the Careers Office.)

Q. Should I bring a copy of my resume to the interview?

A. We highly recommend that you bring a copy of your resume; the recruiter may or may not have it.
