How to Work a Career Fair

The Company's Perspective

Companies go to career fairs to meet potential candidates of employment and to market their company. Many companies use career fairs as their biggest recruiting effort and want to learn about you and your possible fit in the company. With that in mind, here are some key points that impress company representatives.

  • Know what you're interested in
  • Know basic information about what the company does, and even the type of positions they offer (Sometimes you may learn this from their literature at the Career Fair)
  • Show some genuine enthusiasm or interest in the company

Follow-Up

Get the names and emails (and business cards) of the company representatives you meet at the Fair. Since the representative will have met many students at the Fair, you can distinguish yourself by sending a brief follow-up email afterward.
