How to Work a Career Fair

Preparation

There are different opinions about whether it is advisable to distribute your resume to employers at a Career Fair, or whether you should research the employers at the Fair, and then send your resume to the contact person you meet at the Fair. Most employers prefer to receive your resume at the Fair. But how do you prepare a resume in advance when you may not know what the companies are looking for?

One method for dealing with multiple employers who may be seeking different skills, for different functions (if you are open to several possibilities) is to bring more than one version of your resume, and give the appropriate version to each employer. For advice on developing your resume, see our resume workshop on-line, come to our walk in hours, or attend one of our resume workshops.

Students seeking a summer internship should specify that under "Objective." If you are graduating, indicate that you are a candidate for the degree, and show the month and year when you plan to graduate.
