How to Work a Career Fair

Developing A Script

Take a minute to develop a 30-60 second intro to use with prospective employers. INCLUDE:

  • Your name
  • Your program at MIT
  • When you're graduating (or if seeking an internship, what year you're in)
  • Your area of interest and how your background relates to that area.

Your Script

Practice introducing yourself briefly to prospective employers.

"Hello, my name is ___. I am a senior in mathematics and computers. Last summer I did an internship in the IT division of __________ (investment bank). I am interested in broadening my experience and I read that your company develops software products for the investment industry. I'd like to learn more about the career opportunities with ___ (name of their company)."

Company's appreciate it if you've taken the time to learn more about what they do, and even the type of positions they offer.

The Company's Perspective

Know what you're interested in. Know basic information about what the company does, and even the type of positions they offer. (Sometimes you may learn this from their liter-ature at the Career Fair.) Show some genuine enthusiasm or interest in the company.
