Selecting Your Next Employer: Conducting Company Research

What a company reports about itself

Many public companies are required to give an annual report on their financials, including progress with products and services, challanges faced as well as new initiatives and ventures.

Some private companies will also choose to provide limited data about thier company's holdings.

The Thompson Research database (formerly Global Access) provides full-text summaries describing what a company self-reports to the US government and to its shareholders. These summaries may include information on a company's:

  • operations and line of business
  • strategic information and plans for growth
  • anticipated challenges
  • financial situation (revenues, assets, liabilities, etc.)

Database: Thomson Research
Contents: Full-text of 10-K filings and annual reports to stockholders (ARS). Includes US and international companies. Url (requires MIT certificate): http://libraries.mit.edu/get/thomres
