Applying to Graduate School

Application Process

This is a very strenuous process. Try to stay organized from the very beginning! Each school has different deadlines. It helps to keep a master calendar with all of these dates. The summer one year prior to when you hope to begin school, send for the applications. That fall you will be filling them out and organizing your packets to mail. Each school requires something a little different, so make sure that you know exactly what each school wants. Most packets will include an application, an application fee, an essay (sometimes called a statement of purpose), transcripts from ALL previous post-secondary education, letters of recommendation, standardized tests scores, and financial aid applications. APPLY EARLY! Some schools operate on rolling admissions, but even those that don't will most likely look at the applications in the order in which they arrived.
