Making Contact by Phone

Preparation Before You Call
  1. Know purpose of your call and what you want to get out of it. What are your primary goals?
    • an in-office meeting with the person
    • a phone meeting if that is the only reasonable option
    • a referral to additional contacts
  2. What are your secondary goals?
  3. Develop an outline of what you want to say.
    • list talking points and goals on a card
  4. Prepare and "objection" card.
  5. Practice your self-introduction before you call.
  6. Final Tips:
    • leave one message saying that you called, and then keep calling until you reach them; try to avoid being interviewed over the phone
