Tips for During Your Meeting

Body language can often speak louder than spoken words:
  • Do not fidget or play with your hair
  • Shake your contact's hand firmly
  • Do not rock from side to side
  • Make comfortable eye contact
  • Do not look around when talking or being spoken to
  • Smile
  • Do not chew gum
  • *Be enthusiastic and positive, high energy is contagious*
Communication is key:
  • Listen carefully to what the contact has to say, a good networker is a good listener
  • Avoid using filler words such as "um", "like", "you know"
  • Show confidence in your voice
  • Offer a resume if you have a professional looking one; if you don't have one with you, offer to send it
  • Ask for a business card or write down the contact's name
  • Your dialogue should be concise, casual and conversational
